Website & Community

from Kit Singleton

Your business success depends greatly on your website and the reader base or community. As you become involved in more projects, it’s not unusual to put “fresh website content” and the more time consuming tasks on the back burner. This can be safely done for a short period; however, if your website lacks fresh content, knowledgeable moderators, or understanding customer service representatives, your success and profits will be very limited. This doesn’t have to happen.

When you see that there are more tasks than you can handle alone, start building your staff by outsourcing small projects. You can do this on an “as needed” basis, when you are particularly busy. You may want to start building your team with a virtual assistant since they generally have skills in many areas. Here are some things that you may want to consider outsourcing first.

My clients outsource these types of website maintenance tasks to me.

  • Adding & scheduling pre-written articles and posts
  • Making minor SEO edits to articles and posts
  • Installing time-saving or otherwise beneficial plugins
  • Making minor tweaks or adjustments to templates (ie. adding newsletter sign-ups)

For communities, including blogs and message boards, clients often have me perform the following tasks.

  • Approve new members
  • Moderate comments
  • Delete spam
  • Make announcements
  • Add categories or forums

These are not the only website and community tasks that you could outsource but they are a few of the most popular because they can be quite time consuming and steal time from product production. If you find that you need help in any of these areas on a short term or long term basis, let me know how I can help.
