Business Plans For The Holiday Selling Season
Sarah Robinson, a direct sales expert, offers great advice about making a business plan for the holidays! I have to say that I totally agree with her. Anyone who is a new home-business owner or is trying to boost their sales for the holidays, needs a business plan for the holidays. Here are a few suggestions to help you.
One of the keys to making a holiday business plan that works means starting at least 90 days before the holiday! This leaves time for you to get your calendars organized, your products or services ready, decide on your advertising strategy, put the plan into action, and still have time to celebrate the holidays with your family. Many business owners still don’t know about making a holiday business plan. If you are new to business, like I was a few years ago, you aren’t going to be ready for everything during the first year. However, you can make notes as circumstances arise and learn as you go.
One of the most overwhelming things I experienced as a new home-business owner was trying to muddle through my first holiday selling season. It didn’t help that I started my business in August! I was just getting my toes wet when the holiday season hit. Talk about green! I was so new to business, I didn’t even know when the selling season really began. At that point, I was just treading water and trying to stay afloat. For me, the holiday season was like a huge hurricane coming in and all I had was an inner tube to weather the storm. I did make it through and learned a lot in the bargain.
If this is happening to you, it’s not the end of your business. Just hang on, do the best you can, and make notes. It will be over soon and you will have weathered your first holiday selling season. Making notes during these times will help you decide what you’ll need to do differently next year. It will also give you an idea of the topics you will need to research. I’ve done a lot of growing since my first holiday selling “storm.” I’ve read, researched, planned, found mentors who give good advice, and made a few profitable changes. I expect that you’ll be able to say the same by the time the holiday selling season comes around again.
Have you made your holiday business plan yet? Now is the perfect time to start. If you think you’ll wait a bit before making your plan, consider this. How far ahead of the selling season do clothing designers schedule their fashion shows? The answer is months ahead! Take your cue from those in the know. Make your holiday business plans at least ninety days before the holiday and put them in action as soon as you can.
